Northern Irish Tart
A hearty, savory tart filled with the flavors of Northern Ireland, featuring a flaky crust and a rich, peppery filling. Perfect for a cold winter evening.
Ingredients
- β1/2 cup Butter
- β2 cups All-purpose flour
- β1 cup Grated cheddar cheese
- β1 cup Caramelized onionsSlow-cooked in a bit of oil until dark and sweet
- β1 pound Peppery sausageUse a Northern Irish-style sausage or substitute with a similar spicy sausage
- β2 Eggs
- β1/2 cup Heavy cream

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Roll out the puff pastry to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Transfer to a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.

Add the caramelized onions and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream.

Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the bottom of the tart crust.

Add the cooked sausage and onion mixture on top of the cheese.

Pour the egg mixture over the filling.
