Croatian Pierogi with Pastry Crust
A classic Eastern European dish featuring homemade pierogi filled with a traditional Croatian mixture, topped with a crispy pastry crust.
Ingredients
- ●2 cups pirogi doughavailable at most Eastern European markets
- ●1 sheet buttery pastrythawed
- ●2 cups croatian fillingsee below for recipe
- ●1/4 cup croissant crumbsfor topping
- ●1/2 cup sugargranulated
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pastry to a thickness of 1/8 inch.

Cut out circles of pastry using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place a tablespoon of the Croatian filling in the center of each pastry circle.

Fold the pastry in half over the filling, pressing the edges to seal.

Place the pierogi on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Brush the tops of the pierogi with the beaten egg and sprinkle with croissant crumbs.

Bake the pierogi for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

While the pierogi are baking, mix the sugar and buttery pastry in a small bowl until well combined.

Remove the pierogi from the oven and top each one with a spoonful of the sugar and pastry mixture.
