Beef and Mushroom Pirozhki
A classic Russian comfort food dish of beef and mushroom filled dough pastries.
Ingredients
- ●2 cups All-purpose flour
- ●1/2 cup Warm waterfor dough
- ●1 teaspoon Active dry yeastfor dough
- ●1 pound Beefground
- ●8 ounces Mushroomssliced
- ●1 medium Onionchopped
- ●1 large Eggbeaten
- ●1 teaspoon Salt
- ●1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- ●2 tablespoons Buttermelted

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt.

Gradually add warm water, stirring to form a dough.

Knead the dough for 5 minutes, until smooth.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a pan, sauté chopped onion and sliced mushrooms until tender.

Add ground beef to the pan, cooking until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.

Stir in beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.

Roll out each piece into a thin circle.

Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each circle.

Brush the edges with melted butter, fold the dough over the filling, and press edges to seal.

Place the pirozhki on a baking sheet, leaving space between each pastry.
