Beef and Mushroom Pelmeni
A traditional Ukrainian dish, these beef and mushroom-filled dumplings are perfect for a cold winter's night. Made with love and care, they are sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground beef80% lean
- β1 medium Onionfinely chopped
- β1 cup Mushroomsbutton or cremini
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- β1 large Egg
- β2 cups All-purpose flour
- β1/4 cup Water
- β2 tablespoons Unsalted butter

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, mushrooms, salt, and black pepper. Mix well with your hands until just combined.

In a separate bowl, beat the egg. Add flour and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest for 30 minutes.

Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll out each piece into a thin sheet.

Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each sheet. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Gently add the pelmeni to the pot and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.

In a separate pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the cooked pelmeni and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Serve hot with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, chopped fresh dill, or grated cheddar cheese.
