Japanese Onigiri with Masa Arepa Filling
A delicious fusion dish combining the traditional Japanese onigiri with a crispy masa arepa filling.
Ingredients
- β2 cups masarepa (arepa flour)soaked in water
- β1 cup waterfor arepa dough
- β2 cups onigiri riceJapanese short-grain rice
- β2 tbsp Japanese furikakeseasoning blend
- β2 tbsp sushi vinegarfor rice seasoning
- β1 tsp saltfor arepa dough
- β2 tbsp coconut oilfor pan-frying arepas

1. In a large bowl, soak 2 cups of masarepa in 1 cup of water for at least 4 hours.

2. Preheat a non-stick pan over medium heat.

3. Using a spoon, shape the soaked masarepa mixture into small patties.

4. Pan-fry the arepa patties until crispy and golden brown.

5. Mix the cooked arepa patties with Japanese furikake and salt.

6. Prepare the onigiri rice according to the package instructions.

7. Season the cooked onigiri rice with sushi vinegar.

8. Shape the onigiri rice into small triangular shapes.

9. Place a spoonful of the arepa mixture onto one half of each onigiri triangle.
