Tofu Dashi Bites
A Japanese-inspired appetizer featuring crispy tofu bites tossed in a savory dashi sauce. Perfect for a quick snack or light meal.
Ingredients
- β1 block (14 oz) tofudrained and cut into bite-sized pieces
- β2 cups dashihomemade or store-bought
- β1 tsp cravingassuming craving is a reference to furikake or a spicy seasoning blend
- β4-6 pitted dates dateschopped
- β1 tbsp earthlyassuming earthly is a reference to sesame oil or a savory oil
- β1 tsp midnightassuming midnight is a reference to black sesame seeds or a dark oil

1. Preheat oil in a deep frying pan to 350Β°F (175Β°C).

2. In a shallow dish, mix together dashi, craving (furikake or spicy seasoning blend), and earthly (sesame oil or savory oil).

3. Dip tofu pieces into the dashi mixture, coating evenly.

4. Fry tofu in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch.

5. Remove fried tofu from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

6. In a small bowl, mix together chopped dates and midnight (black sesame seeds or dark oil).
