Traditional Polish Beef Stew
A hearty beef stew with earthy flavors, tender beef, and a rich broth. Serve with some crusty bread or over mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef stew meatcut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotpeeled and chopped
- β2 stalks celerychopped
- β2 cups beef brothlow-sodium
- β1/2 cup red wineoptional
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flourfor thickening
- β1 teaspoon dried thymechopped
- β1/2 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepperto taste
Instructions

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove beef and set aside.

Reduce heat to medium and add chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes.

Add beef broth, red wine (if using), flour, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

Return beef to pot and bring to a boil.

Cover and transfer to the oven. Braise for 2 1/2 hours or until beef is tender.

Remove from heat and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
