Chicken Tikka Masala German Style
A German twist on the classic Indian dish, with marinated chicken cooked in a rich cream sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 pound chicken breastcut into bite-sized pieces
- β2 tablespoons chicken tikka masala spice blendavailable at Indian or Middle Eastern markets
- β1/2 pound fatty german sausagesuch as knockwurst or bratwurst
- β1 large onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons all-purpose flourfor dusting chicken
- β1 cup heavy creamfor sauce
- β1 cup chicken brothfor sauce
- β2 tablespoons unsalted butterfor sauce
- β saltto taste

1. In a large bowl, whisk together chicken tikka masala spice blend, salt, and 2 tablespoons of oil. Add the chicken and mix until coated.

2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.

3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off.

4. Add the chicken to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

5. Add the sausage to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

6. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

7. Add the flour to the skillet and cook for 1 minute.

8. Gradually add the chicken broth and heavy cream to the skillet, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

9. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.

11. Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet and stir to coat with the sauce.
