Algerian Tagine Chicken
A traditional Algerian dish made with marinated chicken cooked in a flavorful tagine sauce.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds chicken thighs
- β2 tablespoons algerianpreserved lemon paste
- β1/4 cup fattyolive oil
- β1 large juicyonion, thinly sliced
- β2 cloves palmgarlic, minced
- β1 tablespoon sugar
- β2 cups taginechicken broth

Season the chicken with salt and pepper.

Heat the olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the chicken on both sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the chicken from the pot and set it aside.

Reduce the heat to medium and add the sliced onion to the pot.

Cook the onion until it is softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the preserved lemon paste and cook for 1 minute.

Add the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.

Return the chicken to the pot and cover with a lid.

Transfer the pot to the oven and cook at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 30 minutes.

Remove the pot from the oven and stir in the sugar.

Simmer the tagine over medium heat for 10 minutes.
