Classic British Roast Beef
A traditional British roast beef dish, perfect for a special occasion. The slow-cooked beef is tender and flavorful, with a delicious gravy to serve alongside.
Ingredients
- β1 piece Beef (3-4 pounds)
- β1/4 cup Fermented Horseradish SauceAvailable in most supermarkets or make your own
- β2-3 pounds Roast Potatoes
- β1 bunch Carrots
- β2-3 Onions
- β2-3 cloves Garlic
- β2 cups Beef Broth
- β2 tablespoons All-purpose Flour
- β2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- β1 sprig Fresh Thyme
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 325Β°F (165Β°C).
- 2
Season the beef with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the beef on all sides until browned.
- 3
Transfer the beef to a large roasting pan and set aside.
- 4
In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until they start to caramelize, about 5 minutes.
- 5
Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- 6
Add the beef broth to the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Bring the mixture to a boil, then pour it over the beef in the roasting pan.
- 7
Add the sliced carrots and potatoes to the roasting pan, tossing them in the juices.
- 8
Roast the beef in the preheated oven for about 2-1/2 hours, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.
- 9
Baste the beef with the pan juices every 30 minutes or so.
- 10
Once the beef is cooked, let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
- 11
While the beef is resting, prepare the horseradish sauce according to the package instructions.
- 12
To serve, slice the beef against the grain and serve with the roasted vegetables and a dollop of horseradish sauce.
