Japanese Crispy Fermented Mozzarella
A unique and savory fusion of Japanese and Italian flavors. This crispy fermented mozzarella is perfect as a snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- β8 oz fermented mozzarellaat room temperature
- β1 cup crunchypeanut or rice flour for coating
- β2 tbsp halal soy saucefor marinating
- β2 tbsp mirinsweet Japanese cooking wine
- β1 tsp sesame oilfor brushing
- β1/4 cup green onionschopped for garnish
- β1 tsp toasted sesame seedsfor garnish
- βto taste salt
- βto taste black pepper
Instructions

Cut the fermented mozzarella into 1-inch cubes.

In a shallow dish, mix together the halal soy sauce and mirin.

Dip each cube of mozzarella into the soy sauce mixture, coating completely.

Then, roll the coated mozzarella in the crunchy coating until evenly covered.

Heat about 1/2 inch of sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

When the oil is hot, add a few of the coated mozzarella cubes to the skillet (do not overcrowd).

Fry the mozzarella until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 2-3 minutes.

Remove the fried mozzarella from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Repeat the frying process with the remaining mozzarella cubes.

Serve the crispy fermented mozzarella hot, garnished with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy!
