Algerian Chicken Tagine
A hearty and flavorful North African stew made with chicken, spices, and rice. This tagine is a comforting and aromatic dish perfect for a cold evening.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds chicken thighsbone-in, skin-on
- β1 cup snappy riceshort-grain rice
- β2 tablespoons algerian spice blendstore-bought or homemade
- β1/4 cup fermented olivespitted
- β2 cups chicken broth
- β1 cup water
- β2 tablespoons olive oil
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced

Heat oil in the bottom of a clay or ceramic tagine or large Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add spice blend and cook for 1 minute.

Add broth, water, and rice. Stir to combine.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until rice is cooked and chicken is tender.
