Venezuelan Empanada Filling with Fried Peas
A delicious and easy-to-make filling for empanadas, featuring fried peas and a hint of venezuelan spices.
Ingredients
- ●1 package flaky pastry dough
- ●1 cup fried peas
- ●1 small onion
- ●2 cloves garlic
- ●1 tsp cumin
- ●1 tsp paprika
- ●to taste salt

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Roll out the flaky pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).

Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

In a pan, heat some oil over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic until softened.

Add the fried peas, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the pan and stir to combine.

Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle.

Fold the dough in half to form a half-circle and press the edges together to seal the empanada.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with a little bit of water and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
