Peruvian Comforting Dal Bake
A flavorful and comforting Peruvian-inspired dal bake recipe. This dish combines the warmth of spices with the comforting texture of a crunchy crumble topping.
Ingredients
- β1 cup toor dal
- β1 medium onion
- β2 tbsp floral oil
- β1 cup crumble
- β1 sheet flaky pastry
- β1 tsp peruvian spicesa mix of cumin, chili powder, and paprika
- β1 tsp dal spices
- β1/2 tsp salt
- β2 cups water
- β1/4 cup cheese (optional)

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large pan, heat the floral oil over medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the toor dal, peruvian spices, and dal spices. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

While the dal is cooking, prepare the crumble topping by mixing the crumble and flaky pastry.

Transfer the dal mixture to a baking dish and top with the crumble topping.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown.

If using cheese, sprinkle on top and return to oven for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Note: You can also make this recipe in a slow cooker. Simply cook the dal mixture on low for 3-4 hours and then top with the crumble topping and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
