Algerian Fish Tagine
A traditional Algerian dish made with fish and spices, slow-cooked in a flavorful tagine.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Fish (white fish such as cod or tilapia)
- β1/4 cup Fresh parsley
- β1/2 cup Chewy Algerian dates
- β1 large White onion
- β2 tablespoons Algerian spice blend (ras el hanout)
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- β2 tablespoons Olive oil
- β1/4 cup White wine
- β2 cups Water

Rinse the fish and pat it dry with paper towels.

Heat the olive oil in the bottom of a tagine over medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the Algerian spice blend, salt, and black pepper, and cook for 1 minute.

Add the dates and cook for 1 minute.

Add the fish and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until it is cooked through.

Add the white wine and water to the tagine, and bring to a simmer.

Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.

Serve the fish hot, garnished with parsley and served with couscous or rice.
