Uruguayan Beef Empanadas
A classic Uruguayan dish filled with tender beef and spices, wrapped in a crispy empanada crust.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground Beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β1 medium Onionfinely chopped
- β1/4 cup Fresh Cilantrochopped
- β2 cloves Garlicminced
- β1/2 cup Uruguayan Salsa Criollastore-bought or homemade
- β2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1 large Eggbeaten
- β1/2 cup Water
- β1 package Empanada Dough (homemade or store-bought)

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and Uruguayan Salsa Criolla to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.

Stir in the chopped cilantro and season the beef mixture with salt to taste.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the empanada dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Use a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out circles of dough.

Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each dough circle.

Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg and fold the dough over the filling, pressing the edges together to seal the empanada.

Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with the beaten egg.

Bake the empanadas in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
