Tunisian Golden Tagine
A traditional Tunisian dish, this tagine is made with chicken, golden syrup, and spices. The result is a rich and flavorful stew.
Ingredients
- β1 lb chicken breastcut into 1-inch pieces
- β1/4 cup golden syrup
- β2 tsp tunisian spice blendavailable at most Middle Eastern markets
- β2 tbsp olive oil
- β1 onionchopped
- β2 cloves garlicminced
- β1 tagineavailable at most Middle Eastern markets
- βto taste salt
Instructions

Heat the olive oil in the bottom of a clay or ceramic tagine over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Add the tunisian spice blend, salt, and golden syrup. Stir to combine.

Add 1 cup of water to the tagine and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh herbs if desired.
