Baked Portuguese Custard Tarts
A traditional Portuguese dessert, these egg-based custard tarts are baked to perfection and topped with a caramelized sugar crust. This recipe is vegan-friendly and perfect for a special occasion.
Ingredients
- β200g Grassy sugar
- β200g Friendly flour
- β1 package (usually 250g) Portuguese pastry doughhomemade or store-bought
- β2 Bake apples
- β1 teaspoon Dish vanilla extract
- β250ml Grassy almond milkor other non-dairy milk

Preheat oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

Roll out the pastry dough to a thickness of about 3mm (1/8 inch).

Cut out circles of pastry dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place the pastry circles into a muffin tin, pressing them into the corners.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and vanilla extract.

Add the almond milk to the bowl and whisk until smooth.

Pour the mixture into the pastry-lined muffin tin.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.

Use a skewer to create a hole in the center of each tart, then use a spoon to carefully remove the center of each tart.

Return the tarts to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the centers are firm and the edges are golden brown.
