Hearty Mushroom Bake
A comforting, flavorful casserole perfect for a chilly evening. Made with tender mushrooms, savory meat, and a flaky crust.
Ingredients
- β1 lb ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β1 cup mushroomssliced
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tbsp all-purpose flourfor thickening
- β1 cup chicken brothlow sodium
- β1 cup bechamel saucestore-bought or homemade
- β1 cup shredded cheddar cheesedivided
- β1 package bake mixfor the crust
- β2 eggsbeaten

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

Add the sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the vegetables are tender.

Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Gradually add the chicken broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened.

Stir in the bechamel sauce and 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

In a separate bowl, mix the beaten eggs and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.

Pour the meat mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish and top with the egg mixture.

Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Pour the bake mix into a separate bowl and mix with 1/4 cup of water until a dough forms.

Roll out the dough to fit the top of the baking dish and place it on top of the filling.
