Pork Bao
A traditional Chinese dish featuring tender pork in a savory sauce served in a steamed bun.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Pork shouldercut into 1-inch pieces
- β2 tablespoons Soy saucedivided
- β1 tablespoon Brown sugar
- β2 inches Gingersliced
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 bunch Scallionschopped
- β4 Bao bunssteamed
- β2 cups Waterfor steaming buns

1. In a large Dutch oven, heat 1 tablespoon of soy sauce over medium-high heat. Brown the pork on all sides, then remove from heat.

2. Add the sliced ginger and minced garlic to the pot and cook until fragrant.

3. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, brown sugar, and 2 cups of water to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours or until the pork is tender.

4. Meanwhile, steam the bao buns according to package instructions.

5. To assemble the bao, place a portion of the pork onto the bun, followed by chopped scallions and a drizzle of the braising liquid.
