Croatian Chili
Hearty, comforting Mexican-inspired stew made with Croatian sausage and a blend of spices.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Croatian SausageSlice into 1-inch pieces
- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β2 tablespoons Tomato PasteOptional
- β14.5 ounces Canned Diced TomatoesCrushed by hand
- β15 ounces Bake BeansDrained and rinsed
- β2 teaspoons Chili PowderAdjust to taste
- β1 teaspoon CuminGround
- β1/2 teaspoon SaltTo taste

Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the sliced Croatian sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the sausage from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Add the crushed canned diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, and salt.

Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

Return the browned sausage to the pot and stir in the bake beans.

Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.
