Tunisian Beef Tagine
A hearty, slow-cooked stew originating from Tunisia, made with tender beef and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- β1.5 lbs Beef ChuckCut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 medium OnionChopped
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β1-inch piece GingerGrated
- β2 tsp CuminGround
- β1 tsp CorianderGround
- β1/2 tsp CinnamonGround
- β1/2 tsp TurmericGround
- β1 tsp SaltCoarse
- β1/2 tsp Black PepperGround
- β2 cups Beef BrothHomemade or store-bought
- β1/4 cup Chopped Fresh ParsleyOptional garnish

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and ginger to the pot and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the beef broth to the pot and bring to a boil.

Return the beef to the pot and bring to a simmer.

Cover the pot and transfer it to the oven. Braise the tagine for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Skim off any excess fat from the surface of the tagine.

Serve the tagine hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
