Carnitas Tacos
A classic Mexican dish featuring slow-cooked pork, served in a crispy taco shell with your favorite toppings.
Ingredients
- β2 pounds Pork shoulderCut into large chunks
- β1/4 cup Lard or vegetable oil
- β1 medium OnionSliced
- β3 cloves GarlicMinced
- β2 tablespoons Chili powder
- β1 teaspoon Cumin
- β1/2 teaspoon Salt
- β8-10 Corn tortillasFor serving
- β1 cup Sliced radishesFor serving
- β4 Sliced lime wedgesFor serving
- β1/4 cup CilantroChopped, for garnish

Heat the lard or oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the pork chunks and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the chili powder, cumin, and salt, and stir to combine.

Transfer the pork to the oven and cook at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 2-1/2 hours, or until tender and easily shredded.

Shred the pork with two forks and stir to combine with the cooking liquid.

Warm the tortillas by wrapping them in a damp paper towel and microwaving for 20-30 seconds.

Assemble the tacos by spooning the pork onto a tortilla, followed by your desired toppings.
