South Indian Chickpea Dhal Curry
A flavorful and nutritious curry made with chickpeas and dhal, inspired by South Indian cuisine. Serve with steaming hot rice or roti.
Ingredients
- ●1 can (14 oz) chickpeasdrained and rinsed
- ●1 cup dhalsplit red lentils
- ●2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ●1 medium onionchopped
- ●3 cloves garlicminced
- ●1-inch piece gingergrated
- ●1 tsp cumin seeds
- ●1 sprig curry leavesoptional
- ●1 tsp salt
- ●1 tsp chili powder

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Add onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onion is translucent.

Add curry leaves (if using) and sauté for another minute.

Add chickpeas, dhal, salt, and chili powder. Mix well.

Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the dhal is cooked.
