Pan-Seared German Seitan Skillet
A hearty German-inspired dish made with pan-seared seitan, onions, and bell peppers, finished with a rich wine sauce.
Ingredients
- ●1 package, cut into 1-inch pieces seitan
- ●1 medium, chopped onion
- ●1 medium, sliced bell pepper
- ●1/2 cup red wine
- ●1 cup vegetable broth
- ●2 tablespoons tomato paste
- ●2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ●1 teaspoon salt
- ●1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- 1
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- 2
Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet and sear the seitan until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- 3
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the skillet and sauté the onion and bell pepper until tender, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Add the red wine to the skillet and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits.
- 5
Add the vegetable broth, tomato paste, flour, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- 6
Return the seitan to the skillet and simmer, covered, until the sauce has thickened and the seitan is coated, about 10-12 minutes.
- 7
Serve the seitan and sauce hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
