Algerian Chicken Tagine
A classic North African dish made with tender chicken, aromatic spices, and sweet tamarind. Serve over couscous with fresh herbs.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Chicken breastboneless and skinless
- β2 tablespoons Algerian spice blendavailable at Middle Eastern markets
- β2 tablespoons Tamarind pasteavailable at Indian or Middle Eastern markets
- β2 tablespoons Olive oiloptional
- β1 large Onionschopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1/4 cup Shaggy thymefresh and chopped
- β1 teaspoon Saltoptional
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepperoptional
- β1/4 cup Fresh parsleychopped

Heat the oil in the bottom of a clay or ceramic tagine over medium heat.

Add the onions and cook until they start to soften, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the chicken, Algerian spice blend, tamarind paste, salt, and pepper.

Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

Cover the tagine and cook for 30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

Stir in the chopped thyme and parsley.

Serve the chicken over couscous, garnished with additional thyme and parsley if desired.

Optional: add a splash of lemon juice for brightness.
