Bitter Ukrainian Gratinee
A twist on traditional Ukrainian dishes, this gratinee combines the bitterness of beets with the sweetness of caramelized onions.
Ingredients
- ●2 large beetspeeled and thinly sliced
- ●1 large onionsthinly sliced
- ●3 large potatoespeeled and thinly sliced
- ●1 cup, grated gruyere cheese
- ●1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large saucepan, caramelize the onions over medium heat for 20 minutes.

Add the sliced beets to the saucepan and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

In a separate saucepan, boil the sliced potatoes until slightly tender.

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, create a layer of potatoes, followed by a layer of beets and onions.

Sprinkle grated cheese over the top of the beets and onions.

Pour heavy cream over the top of the cheese.

Repeat the layering process, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the gratinee is heated through.
