Venezuelan Beef Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew originating from Venezuela, made with tender beef and rich flavors.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef stew meat beefcut into 1-inch cubes
- β2 large beef kidneys kidneycut into 1-inch pieces
- β1 tablespoon stew seasoning stewsuch as sofrito
- β1 medium onion onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlic garlicminced
- β2 large tomatoes tomatodiced
- β2 large potatoes potatodiced
- β2 large carrots carrotsliced
- β4 cups beef broth beef brothlow-sodium
- β2 cups water water

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the beef and kidneys on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the browned meat and set aside.

Add more oil if necessary, then sautΓ© the onion, garlic, and tomato until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the potatoes and carrots, and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the stew seasoning, beef broth, and water to the pot.

Return the browned meat to the pot, cover, and bring to a boil.

Transfer the pot to the oven and braise for 2 1/2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
