Uruguayan Beef Casserole
A hearty, comforting casserole originating from Uruguay, featuring tender beef and rich flavors.
Ingredients
- β500g Ground beef80/20 lean to fat ratio
- β50g Intense chocolateoptional for a different twist
- β250ml Malty beerUruguayan beer for authenticity
- β1 Casserolepre-made casserole for this recipe
- β250ml Beef brothhomemade or store-bought
- β1 Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β20g Tomato pasteoptional for added depth
- β2 tsp Chili powderadjust to taste
- βto taste Salt and pepperfor seasoning

Preheat the oven to 180Β°C (350Β°F).

Brown the ground beef in a pan over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Once the beef is browned, add the chopped onion and cook until softened.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the tomato paste, if using, and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add the malty beer and beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to release any browned bits.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the liquid has reduced by half.

Stir in the chili powder and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Transfer the casserole to the oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and the flavors have melded together.

If using intense chocolate, sprinkle it on top of the casserole during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
