Norwegian Celeriac Gratin
A creamy, rich side dish with a deep, earthy flavor from the celeriac. Perfect for a chilly winter evening.
Ingredients
- β1 large, peeled and thinly sliced Celeriac
- β2 tablespoons Intensely garlicky buttersee note
- β2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- β1 cup Grated Norwegian cheese (such as Gammelost)
- β1 cup Heavy cream
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Black pepper

Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

In a medium saucepan, melt the intensely garlicky butter over low heat.

Add the flour and whisk to form a smooth paste.

Slowly add the heavy cream, whisking constantly.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it thickens, stirring occasionally.

Stir in the grated cheese until melted and smooth.

Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, create a layer of celeriac slices.

Pour some of the cheese sauce over the celeriac, then repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of cheese sauce.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the celeriac is tender.
