Japanese-Style Mapo Tofu Stir-Fry
A Japanese adaptation of the classic Sichuan mapo tofu dish, with a focus on bold flavors and tender tofu.
Ingredients
- β1 block (14 oz) tofufirm, drained, and cut into small cubes
- β2 tablespoons vegetable oilfor stir-frying
- β1 small onionthinly sliced
- β2 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons intensely roasted chili bean paste
- β1 tablespoon mapo tofu seasoning
- β2 tablespoons soy sauce
- β1 teaspoon sugar
- β1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- β1/4 cup chinese chiveschopped, for garnish
Instructions

Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.

Add the cubed tofu and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes.

Add the intensely roasted chili bean paste, mapo tofu seasoning, soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar.

Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
