Smoky Croatian Lamb Stew
A hearty and flavorful stew featuring tender lamb and a smoky twist from the intensely smoky Croatian paprika. Perfect for a cold winter's night.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds Lamb shouldercut into 2-inch cubes
- β1 large Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons Intensely smoky Croatian paprikaor to taste
- β1 teaspoon Caraway seedsground
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- β2 cups Lamb broth
- β1 cup Red wineoptional
- β2-3 medium Potatoespeeled and cubed

Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.

Remove the lamb from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the smoky paprika, caraway seeds, salt, and black pepper to the pot and cook for 1 minute.

Add the lamb broth and red wine (if using) to the pot and stir to combine.

Return the lamb to the pot and bring to a boil.

Cover the pot and transfer to the preheated oven.

Braise the lamb for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until tender.

Add the cubed potatoes to the pot and continue to braise for an additional 30 minutes.
