Ethiopian-Style Fried Rice
A fusion dish combining Ethiopian spices with the classic fried rice. Crispy fried onions add a satisfying crunch to this flavorful meal.
Ingredients
- β1 cup Crisp OnionsFried until crispy
- β2 medium Juicy TomatoesDiced
- β2 tsp Ethiopian Berbere SpiceAvailable at most international grocery stores
- β2 cups cooked RiceUsing leftover or freshly cooked
- β4 slices NarutomakiJapanese fish cakes, for added protein
Instructions

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the crisp onions and fry until crispy, about 5 minutes.

Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.

Add the diced juicy tomatoes and cook until they start to soften, about 3 minutes.

Add the Ethiopian Berbere Spice and stir to combine.

Add the cooked rice to the skillet and stir to combine with the tomato mixture.

Add the narutomaki slices and stir to combine.

Return the crispy onions to the skillet and stir to combine.
