Kid Friendly American Mac and Cheese Casserole
A classic comfort food dish that is easy to make and always a hit with kids. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients

- β2 cups cheddar cheese
- β2 cups milkwhole or 2% milk
- β4 tbsp butter
- β2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- β1 tsp salt
- β1/2 tsp black pepper
- β1 cup crushed crackersoptional

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the flour and whisk together to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.

Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it thickens, stirring occasionally.

Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Add the cooked macaroni, salt, and pepper to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.
