Galangal and Italian Sausage Torta
A flavorful twist on the traditional Italian torta, featuring spicy sausage and pungent galangal.
Ingredients
- β1 pound italian sausagecasings removed
- β2 inches galangalpeeled and chopped
- β1/2 cup kissed,by,smoldering,heatcrushed red pepper flakes
- β1 loaf tortaItalian-style bread
- β8 ounces mozzarella cheeseshredded
- β1/4 cup fresh basilchopped

Preheat oven to 375Β°F.

In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Add the chopped galangal and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet and cook until the galangal is softened.

Slice the torta in half lengthwise and hollow out the inside.

Stuff each half of the torta with the cooked sausage and galangal mixture.

Top each half with shredded mozzarella cheese and chopped fresh basil.

Place the torta on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
