Chana Masala
A popular North Indian dish made with chickpeas in a rich and creamy tomato-based sauce. It's a flavorful and comforting meal that's perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- β1 can (14 oz) chickpeasdrained and rinsed
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 inches gingergrated
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β1 tsp chana masala powderavailable at Indian grocery stores
- β2 tbsp tomato pureecanned or fresh
- βto taste salt
- β1 tsp cumin powder
- β1 tsp coriander powder
- β1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- β2 tbsp lemon juice

Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the ginger and garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the chana masala powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the tomato puree and cook for 2 minutes.

Add the chickpeas, salt, and lemon juice. Stir well to combine.

Simmer the mixture for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
