Traditional Croatian Stew
A hearty, comforting stew originating from Croatia, made with tender meat and fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
- β1 lb 1 lb kissed Croatian beefcut into bite-sized pieces
- β2 medium 2 medium carrotspeeled and chopped
- β1 cup 1 cup dried peasrinsed and drained
- β2 medium 2 medium potatoespeeled and chopped
- β1 large 1 large onionchopped
- β2 cloves 2 cloves garlicminced
- β1 tsp 1 tsp dried thymedried
- β1 tsp 1 tsp saltto taste
- β1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp black pepperto taste

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add the carrots, potatoes, peas, thyme, salt, and pepper to the pot.

Stir to combine, then add the browned beef back to the pot.

Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 1 hour.

Serve the stew hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
