Kenyan Beef Tagine
A flavorful and aromatic beef stew inspired by Kenyan cuisine, made with tender beef, caramelized onions, and a blend of spices.
Ingredients
- β1 1/2 pounds boneless beef shoulder, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces Beef
- β1 large onion, thinly sliced Onion
- β2 tablespoons Kisumu style spice blend
- β1/4 cup Caramelized onions
- β2 tablespoons Tomato paste
- β2 cups Beef broth
- β1 cup Coconut milk
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- β1/4 cup chopped Fresh cilantro

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside. Add more oil if necessary, then sautΓ© the sliced onions until caramelized.

Add the kisumu style spice blend and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Add the beef broth and bring to a boil. Return the beef to the pot and cover.

Transfer the pot to the oven and braise the tagine for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Stir in the coconut milk and cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Season with salt, black pepper, and chopped cilantro.
