Green Bean Gratin
A French-inspired side dish that's rich, creamy, and perfect for a special occasion.
Ingredients
- ●1 pound, trimmed green beansfresh or frozen
- ●1 cup light creamheavy cream or half-and-half also work
- ●1/2 cup, crumbled briny cheesesuch as feta or goat cheese
- ●1 tablespoon french breadcrumbsgluten-free breadcrumbs also work
- ●1 tablespoon, grated gratinsuch as Parmesan or Gruyère
- ●2 tablespoons unsalted buttersoftened
- ●2 cloves garlicminced
- ●to taste salt

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a large saucepan, combine the green beans and enough cold water to cover them. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, 5-7 minutes.

3. Drain the green beans and set them aside.

4. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, 1-2 minutes.

5. Stir in the light cream, briny cheese, and grated gratin. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly and the cheese is melted and bubbly, 2-3 minutes.

6. In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, create a thin layer of the sauce. Arrange half of the green beans in the dish, then spoon half of the remaining sauce over them.

7. Sprinkle the french breadcrumbs over the top of the sauce, then top with the remaining green beans and the remaining sauce.

8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes.

9. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.

10. Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
