Japanese Tofu Onigiri
A popular Japanese snack made with tofu and served on a bed of rice. This recipe is a twist on the traditional onigiri, featuring a crispy exterior and a soft interior.
Ingredients
- β1 block (14 oz) tofu
- β1 cup short-grain white rice
- β1 cup water
- β1 tsp sesame oil
- β1 tsp soy sauce
- β1/2 cup (diced) onionoptional
- β1/4 cup (chopped) green onionoptional

1. Cook the short-grain white rice according to the package instructions.

2. Cut the tofu into small cubes and pan-fry until crispy and golden brown.

3. In a separate pan, heat the sesame oil and soy sauce over low heat.

4. Add the diced onion and chopped green onion to the pan and cook until softened.

5. To assemble the onigiri, place a small scoop of rice onto a flat surface and shape into a triangle.

6. Place a few pieces of the pan-fried tofu in the center of the rice triangle.

7. Fold the bottom half of the rice triangle up over the tofu, then fold in the sides and press gently to form a triangle shape.
