Kenyan-Style Fried Fish
A flavorful and spicy fried fish dish from Kenya, made with a light batter and served with a side of mushimono.
Ingredients
- β4 Fish fillets (any white fish)Cut into bite-sized pieces
- β1 cup MushimonoFor serving
- β1 cup Light beerFor the batter
- β2 tablespoons Kenyan chili powderFor the spice blend
- β1 teaspoon SaltFor the spice blend
- β1 cup MilkFor the batter
- β1 cup Vegetable oilFor frying

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350Β°F (180Β°C).

In a large bowl, whisk together the light beer, milk, and 1/2 cup of water.

Add the Kenyan chili powder and salt to the bowl and mix until well combined.

Dredge the fish pieces in the batter, making sure they are fully coated.

Carefully place the battered fish pieces in the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried fish from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Serve the fried fish hot with a side of mushimono.
