Syrian Beef Tagine
A hearty and flavorful slow-cooked stew originating from Syria, made with tender beef shin and aromatic spices.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Beef Shincut into 2-inch pieces
- β2 tablespoons Low-Fat Olive Oilfor browning meat
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
- β1 teaspoon Ground Coriander
- β1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
- β1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- β1 teaspoon Salt
- β1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper

Heat the Low-Fat Olive Oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the Beef Shin pieces on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from pot and set aside.

Add the chopped Onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced Garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the Ground Cumin, Ground Coriander, Cinnamon Powder, Turmeric Powder, Salt, and Black Pepper. Cook for 1 minute.

Add the browned Beef Shin back to the pot and stir to coat with spice mixture.

Add 2 cups of water to the pot and bring to a boil.

Cover the pot and transfer to the oven. Braise for 2 1/2 hours, or until the meat is tender.

Remove the pot from the oven and let it cool slightly.

Shred the meat with two forks and return it to the pot. Simmer for 10 minutes to coat with sauce.
