Classic Hunan Dumplings
A Chinese-inspired dish where juicy pork dumplings are steamed and served in a spicy Hunan sauce. This recipe combines the best of both worlds with a delicious and savory filling wrapped in a tender dough wrapper.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground Pork80/20 lean to fat ratio works best
- β1/4 cup Hunan Saucestore-bought or homemade
- β20-24 wrappers Dumpling Wrappersavailable at Asian markets or online
- β2 tablespoons Vegetable Oilfor pan-frying
- β2 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 tablespoon Gingergrated
- β1 tablespoon Sesame Oiloptional

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, Hunan sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil (if using). Mix well with your hands until just combined.

Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Lay a dumpling wrapper on a flat surface. Place a small spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of the wrapper.

Dip your finger in a small amount of water and run it along the edge of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper into a half-moon shape, pressing the edges together to seal the dumpling.

Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

When the oil is hot, add a few of the dumplings to the pan (do not overcrowd). Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the bottoms are golden brown.

Add 1 cup of water to the pan and cover with a lid. Steam the dumplings for 5-7 minutes, until cooked through.

Serve the steamed dumplings with additional Hunan sauce for dipping.

Optional: Pan-fry the dumplings in a little more oil until crispy and golden brown.
