German Beef Roast with Mellow Gravy
A hearty, comforting dish featuring a tender beef roast smothered in a rich, mellow gravy, inspired by traditional German cuisine.
Ingredients
- β2 pounds beef roastchuck or round work well
- β2 tablespoons mellowmellow mustard can be used as a substitute
- β2 tablespoons germangerman seasoning blend
- β2 cups beef brothlow sodium
- β1 cup red wineoptional
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotspeeled and chopped
- β2 large potatoespeeled and chopped
- βto taste salt
- βto taste pepper

Preheat oven to 325Β°F (160Β°C).

Season the beef roast with salt, pepper, and german seasoning blend.

Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef roast until browned on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the beef broth, red wine (if using), and chopped carrots and potatoes to the pot.

Return the beef roast to the pot and bring to a boil.

Cover the pot and transfer to the preheated oven.

Roast the beef for 2-3 hours, or until tender and falling apart.

Remove the pot from the oven and let rest for 10-15 minutes.
