Beef Stew with a Twist
A hearty german-inspired beef stew with a mild, spiced twist. Perfect for a chilly evening.
Ingredients
- β1 pound beef stewcut into 1-inch cubes
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β2 medium carrotpeeled and sliced
- β2 large potatopeeled and cubed
- β2 cups beef brothlow-sodium
- β2 tablespoons tomato pasteoptional
- β1 teaspoon allspiceground
- β1 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon black pepperfreshly ground
- β1/4 teaspoon ukrainian spicessuch as garlic, dill, or paprika

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

Brown the beef cubes on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from pot and set aside.

Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the sliced carrot and cubed potato to the pot. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Add the beef broth, tomato paste (if using), allspice, salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Stir to combine, then return the beef to the pot.

Bring the stew to a boil, then cover and transfer to the oven.

Bake at 300Β°F (150Β°C) for 2 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

Stir in the ukrainian spices and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
