Japanese Chicken Katsu Don
A popular Japanese dish featuring breaded and fried chicken cutlet served on a bed of fluffy rice and topped with a fried egg and tonkatsu sauce.
Ingredients
- β2 Chicken breastBoneless and skinless
- β1/2 cup Bread crumbs
- β1/4 cup All-purpose flour
- β1 Egg
- β2 tablespoons Tonkatsu sauce
- β2 cups RiceCooked Japanese short-grain rice
- β1/2 cup Vegetable oil
- βto taste Salt
- βto taste Pepper
- β1/4 cup Green onionsChopped, for garnish
Instructions

Cut the chicken breast into thin cutlets.

Season the chicken with salt and pepper.

Dredge the chicken in flour, shaking off excess.

Dip the floured chicken in beaten egg, making sure it's fully coated.

Roll the egg-coated chicken in bread crumbs, pressing the crumbs onto the chicken to help them stick.

Heat about 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

When the oil is hot, add the breaded chicken cutlets and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Cook Japanese short-grain rice according to package instructions.

To assemble the dish, place a portion of cooked rice on a plate, followed by a piece of fried chicken, a fried egg, and a drizzle of tonkatsu sauce.
