Uruguayan Beef Empanadas
A classic Uruguayan dish filled with savory beef, perfect for a quick dinner or snack. Serve with a side of chimichurri sauce for added flavor.
Ingredients
- β1 pound Ground beef
- β1 medium, finely chopped Onion
- β2 cloves, minced Garlic
- β1 teaspoon Cumin
- β1/2 teaspoon Paprika
- β1/2 teaspoon Salt
- β1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- β1 Egg, beaten
- β2 cups Flour, all-purpose
- β1/4 cup Water
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
- 2
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
- 3
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
- 4
Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
- 5
In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture and beaten egg. Mix well to combine.
- 6
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the remaining dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
- 7
Use a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out circles of dough. You should be able to get about 8-10 circles.
- 8
Place a tablespoon or two of the beef mixture in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-circle shape, and press the edges together to seal the empanada.
- 9
Brush the tops of the empanadas with a little bit of water, and then sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
- 10
Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 11
Serve warm, and enjoy!
