Tunisian Lentil Tagine
A hearty and flavorful stew originating from Tunisia, made with lentils, spices, and tender meat.
Ingredients
- β1 cup Red lentilsrinsed and drained
- β1 medium Onionchopped
- β3 cloves Garlicminced
- β1 pound Ground beeflean
- β1 teaspoon Cuminground
- β1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepperground
- β1/2 teaspoon Saltground
- β1/4 teaspoon Black pepperground
- β2 teaspoons Tunisian tagine spice blendstore-bought or homemade
Instructions

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Stir in the cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Add the rinsed lentils, Tunisian tagine spice blend, and 4 cups of water.

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.

Stir in 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley and cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Serve hot, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
