Empanadas with Date Filling
A delicious Venezuelan-inspired dessert, featuring sweet empanadas filled with a date-based filling.
Ingredients
- β1 cup, pitted Dried dates
- β1 package Nutty pastry dough (homemade or store-bought)
- β1 cup, crumbled Venezuelan cheese (or substitute with mozzarella)Optional

- β1 tablespoon Melted butter
- β1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- β1 tablespoon Sugar
- β1/4 teaspoon Salt

Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

Make or thaw the pastry dough according to package instructions.

In a bowl, mix together the crumbled cheese, melted butter, cinnamon, sugar, and salt.

Add the pitted dates to the cheese mixture and mix well.

Roll out the pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.

Cut out circles of dough using a cookie cutter or the rim of a glass.

Place a tablespoon of the date mixture in the center of each dough circle.

Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape, and press the edges to seal.

Brush the tops of the empanadas with a little water and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake the empanadas in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
