Spicy Algerian Chicken Tagine
A flavorful and aromatic North African dish made with chicken, spices, and preserved lemons.
Ingredients
- β1-2 pounds chicken breastcut into small pieces
- β2 tablespoons olive oilinfused with spices
- β1 tablespoon algerian spice blendor substitute with a mix of cumin, coriander, and paprika
- β1 medium onionchopped
- β3 cloves garlicminced
- β2 tablespoons lemon juicefreshly squeezed
- β1 tablespoon honeyoptional
- β1 teaspoon saltto taste
- β1/4 teaspoon black pepperto taste
- β1/2 teaspoon tagine spiceoptional
Instructions

Heat the infused olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

Add the chicken to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the algerian spice blend, lemon juice, honey (if using), salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Stir to combine, then add the tagine spice (if using).

Transfer the pot to the oven and cook for 30-40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs (such as parsley or cilantro) and lemon wedges (if desired).
